Jeb is a locally born and raised native to Rapid City, SD. After graduating from Rapid City Christian High School in 1995, he pursued the powerline trade, working for Brink Constructors while also earning a college degree in Business Administration from Black Hills State University in 2002. Following his heart, Jeb stayed in the powerline trade, and in 2004, he took a job as a lineman with the government at Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), where he worked for the next 17 years.
Working for WAPA provided an amazing life and many opportunities for Jeb and his family. But there was always something missing. Jeb's rugged independent spirit always had him looking at other possibilities and ways of "doing life."
When Covid struck, many things changed in the government workforce, as they did for many people. There were numerous new rules and mandates that seemed nonsensical. Then, in October of 2021, the Biden Administration mandated that all federal employees be fully vaccinated by November 22. Non-compliance with this mandate would result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
At this point, Jeb felt it was time to stand. It was time to oppose this mandate and everything that came with it. On October 17, 2021, Jeb wrote an email expressing his opposition and sent it out to nearly 1,500 government workers within WAPA all over the western United States. All levels of personnel, from craftspeople to upper management, received this email from someone they had never heard of before who was simply doing what he felt he was "supposed to do"—standing up to tyranny. (You can read Jeb's email titled "October 17" below.)
For taking this stand, Jeb was disciplined with two weeks off without pay. It soon became apparent that he would likely be fired for non-compliance anyway. Thus, Jeb started exploring what life would be like after powerlines. He began to use all the vacation time he had saved over the last 17 years, allowing him to be on "vacation" until after January 1, 2022. He began doing some handyman work but soon realized there was a significant demand for tree care services that was not being met. A couple of responses to a simple Craigslist ad, and Jeb was doing tree work. Every little job led to another, and with a bit more advertising, he had more work than he could handle.
And suddenly, 413 Services, LLC was born. Jeb chose this name as it represents one of his favorite Bible verses. Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me." He thought, "I can do ALL THINGS-----TREES!" With this new venture, Jeb also began offering tree removal services as part of his growing business.
Now, here Jeb is, with his family, continuing on this journey and adventure, knowing, trusting, and believing fully that THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
